The mind doesn't know the difference between a real and an imagined experience. It also doesn't know the difference between real and simulated laughter. With Laughter Yoga you pretend to laugh, until you're no longer pretending. Laughter is contagious. The kind of thing you want to catch.
Laughter Yoga uses a combination of structured laughter exercises and breathing exercises to bring about a joyful emotional state.
Laughter Yoga is a body to mind exercise. Mostly it's our thoughts which inform our emotional state, and our emotional state impacts our physiology or body language. If you think negative thoughts and carry negative emotions, people can see that in your body language, or they can sense that energy coming from you. With laughter, our physiology creates our emotional state, one of Joy, which then influences our thoughts to be more positive.
When you laugh, a good belly laugh, you exercise your diaphragm, which releases the feel good hormones. This gives your physical and mental health a boost.
Laughter helps you expel stale air from the lungs and fills them with more fresh air than you would normally breath in your daily life. It oxygenates your blood, brain and cells, and oxygenated cells are healthier cells.
Laughter brings you into the present. You can't laugh in the past or in the future. So if you're ruminating about the past, or worried about the future, a good belly laugh will bring you back to the now.
You can book a Laughter Yoga session for team building days, RU OK Day, Mental Health Week, at the benefit your workplace relations.
